Valentine’s Day may be long gone but for all us chocolate lovers out there, consuming copious amounts of  chocolate doesn’t really need an excuse.

We explored Australia’s longstanding love affair with chocolate, percolating through the sunny coasts of Queensland to the urban streets of Melbourne. Here’s your golden ticket to the land down under’s best chocolatiers.

Mörk Chocolate

Coffee and chocolate is one of the best combinations of all time, and any Melburnian chocaholic will readily rave about Mörk Chocolate Brew House’s decadent chocolate creations. Mörk, meaning ‘dark’ in Swedish, is a fitting name for this specialty chocolate shop and brewery, offering four rich blends with  ingredients expertly sourced from Venezuela, Ghana and West Java. They also have an endless supply of hand-crafted pralines, pastries, and other desserts to go with the best cup of hot choc you’ll ever sip on.

Be sure to check out their insta-famous Campfire Chocolate— hot chocolate served with a smoke-fogged stemless wine glass, a mini beaker of hot chocolate, smoked sea salt and toasted marshmallow.

Kakawa Chocolates

Expert chocolatier Jin Sun Kim works her magic at Kakawa Chocolate’s brick-and-mortar store in Darlinghurst, New South Wales. Her hand-dipped chocolate concoctions can make any chocolate lover swoon. Their selection of handmade pralines and truffles just look too pretty to eat (well, almost).

Gabriel Chocolate

Gabriel Chocolate is Western Australia’s first bean to bar chocolate makers and they have won multiple awards for their chocolate. They also have two cafes, one of which is near the vineyard region (what’s better than wine and chocolate!?), so be sure to visit when you’re in the area. As one reviewer said, “Visited once, had the chocolate brownie, then went back the next 3 days in a row!”

For something unique, be sure to try their Real Dark Hot Chocolate Sticks and their single origin  Venezuela Chuao 99% Dark Chocolate which is delectably smooth and complex in flavour.

New Farm Confectionery

This quaint shop in New Farm, Queensland is a one-stop-shop for all things sweet. Their inventory of artisan handmade mouth-watering classics include hazelnut and dark chocolate brittle, salted caramel lollipops, and their signature dark chocolate honeycomb (be still my heart)! To top it off, these chocolate goodies are made from couverture chocolate and are 100% preservative-free.
