ShopandBox Tastemakers and Shoppers Celebrate Mother’s Day

We’ve done Boxer interviews and even guest posts by some of them who happen to be resident experts on certain areas of expertise, but we figured why not ask our very valuable Shoppers as well on their backgrounds?

As such, we interviewed both our Boxers and Shoppers across the globe on what they are planning to gift their mum this Mother’s Day, and what they would love to receive as mums during this weekend.

1. How many kids do you have? And how old are they?

Max – 4 and Luella – 9 weeks.

2. What are three things that you would love to receive for Mother’s Day?

Something Max has made me at daycare, a gummy smile from Luella and breakfast in bed from my husband!

3. What is your favourite part about being a mum?

The love you feel for them – it’s both exhilarating and intense. From those first floods of oxytocin in the hospital when you look at your newborn and your heart feels like it might burst to the warm swell of affection you feel when your toddler wraps their arms around your neck, or your child whispers in your ear or runs to you when they’re scared. It’s tender, raw and achingly real.

4. What is the most surprising part about being a mum?

How hard it all is! You don’t realise until you do it yourself and then you have SO much respect for your mum.

5. What are you planning to give your own mum for Mother’s Day?

A beautiful portrait of us together in a special frame.

1. How many kids do you have? And how old are they?

I have a two year old son and am expecting in a few weeks another child.

2. What are three things that are on your Wishlist for Mother’s Day? (apart from more sleep!)

3. What is your favourite part about being a mum?

I get full control over my little one! Getting all the hugs and kisses from the little guy and watching him take his firsts, stepping on his milestones, and just growing up, essentially.

4. What is the most surprising part about being a mum?

You start to do things somehow more efficiently than you did before having the child because slacking off doesn’t become an option anymore if you still want your own personal time. And I think there’s definitely more laughter in the house, which is one of the best things I’d say.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I was born in Hong Kong and I have moved around quite a bit over the years – Sydney, Hong Kong, Adelaide and now Melbourne. I recently finished my degree in Industrial Design and I am now working in social media. I have a great passion for makeup and beauty and I handle my own blog and Instagram account, thehanihanii.

2. What do you admire most about your mum?

What I admire most about my mum is that she is a loving and encouraging woman. When I have my doubts, she is always there to give me guidance and support. She cares a lot for our family and she always puts others before herself. My mum made me who I am today and I love her very much.

We used to have a pug a couple years ago and the Swarovki Pug (+ Add To Wishlist) looks super cute as a display and it reminds me of my little puppy. I’ve always loved how handy cheek trios are and I thought this Hourglass one (+ Add To Wishlist) would be perfect for mum. It’s in a cream formula that’s easy to use, you can blend with your finger and it’s suitable for mature skin. She’s going to love the glow on her cheeks.

4. What is one of your favourite memories of shopping together with mum?

Mum and I both love Thailand, whether it’s the food or shopping. Every time we go, we always go on a shopping spree at the malls and local markets, we would shop until we drop. So shopping in Thailand is hands-down my favourite shopping memory with mum.

5. What is one thing from mum’s closet that you wish you could steal?

My mum loves silk scarves and she has plenty of them. She has this red one with a pretty pattern on it that she wears all the time, it is so beautiful and the colour and design go with everything. I think scarf is an interesting accessory because it could easily change the look of an outfit. I would steal her scarf collection if I could!

1. Tell us a bit about yourself.

I was born and raised in Argentina; people are very surprised to learn Spanish is my first language. My parents worked very hard to give my two older sisters and I a chance at a better future; so when I was 12, we migrated to Australia. Their decision is one I will always be thankful for! We moved from Buenos Aires to Melbourne where we lived for the first 5 years, and now we live in tropical North Queensland. I studied a Bachelor of Professional Communication (I specialised in writing, public relations and digital media), and work as a multimedia writer and content creator for a super cool online store. In my spare time I love blogging (of course!), CrossFit and spending time with my partner of three years, Tim.

2. What do you admire most about your mum?

I have always admired my mum’s strength – she’s the strongest person I know! No matter what life throws at her or anyone in our family, she always remains positive and pushes through any curve balls like an absolute champion.

3. Tell us more about your Mother’s Day gift selections for your mother.

First of all – a huge thank you to ShopandBox for helping me spoil my mum! She rarely ever treats herself, so I cannot wait to see her face on Mother’s Day when I give her these goodies. Since I started blogging a year ago, my mum’s been very encouraging and has shown so much interest in what I do and my love for all things beauty. We’ve bonded even more, if that’s even possible.I love telling her about products I’m trying out, or items in my wishlist, so I decided to get her a beautiful Chanel blush in Jersey (+ Add To Wishlist) that I’ve wanted for so long. I know it will look so beautiful on her olive skin!

She’s also all about long-wearing mauve-pink lipstick and she’s been using the same lippie for the longest time. I thought it’d be nice to introduce her to the liquid lipstick craze, and what better than Anastasia Beverly Hills (+ Add To Wishlist). I also went with a candle – Figuier by Diptyque (+ Add To Wishlist). She loves candles, and she has loved figs since she was little (my grandma had a fig tree in her back yard), so I thought this candle would combine those things perfectly.

Lastly, I chose a beautiful Kate Spade Dipped Personalized Journal (+ Add To Wishlist) because we have been talking about wanting to start writing our thoughts down.

4. What is one of your favourite memories of shopping together with mum?

One that always gets brought up from when I was six – we were at the mall and I was begging her for a new doll. I was very persuasive as a kid, so I asked her – “Mum, seriously, what’s $10?!” basically saying the Barbie didn’t cost too much, surely she could buy it for me. Well, she didn’t; but we still laugh about it to this day! My mum is my favourite shopping companion. She gets my style, my likes and dislikes, and most importantly, she’s very honest!

5. What is one thing from mum’s closet that you wish you could steal?

Tough one! We have similar tastes, so I love to see what’s new in her wardrobe whenever I visit her – I’m sure there are a few things I could steal! But I particularly love her jewellery – she has some stunning pieces.
