Top Beauty Tips We Learned From Our Mums

The quote ‘mother knows best’ is pretty much what every mum says right after she proves you wrong when you think you know better than her. But you can’t deny that she’s got way more experience in beauty, wellness, (and life, generally) when it comes to giving advice. From getting sufficient sleep at night to DIY ways to make yourself feel beautiful inside and out, we take a look at what some of the best beauty and wellness tips are from our ShopandBox community.

“I would say wisdom I learned from my mom was the importance of taking care of your skin and investing in good quality products. My absolute favourite product recommended by her is Clarisonic. And if there’s one thing I’d love to tell my daughter—my encouragement to her is every girl is beautiful and deserves to be pampered like a princess! Always make time for pamper nights, masks and that new lipstick or highlighter that makes you glow. For me, two things always make me feel beautiful: Tom Ford lipstick and Guerlain perfume.”

“If there’s one constant piece of resounding advice that I’ve gotten from my mum over the years, it’s this: staying out of the sun is the best bet to looking young. My mum is pretty much the antithesis of a beach bum—she lathers on sunblock all day (and sometimes at night too) and doesn’t see the thrill in suntanning (‘these people don’t know what’s gonna hit them when they turn 50’ is her favourite phrase). Drinking lots of water is another habit I’ve learned from her, because hydration is key. And not forgetting, always have a dose of my daily vitamins and supplements because those will help in the long run, but if I actually do forget those, a generous amount of leafy greens and fruits never fails.”

“A few beauty tips I’ve gotten from mum would be to drink loads of water everyday, and to never sleep past midnight—which probably explains why she looks like she’s ageing backwards. One thing that she (along with my dad) swears by is to consume one spoonful of organic coconut oil every morning; she vouches for its benefits on her hair and skin, plus it really helps with the good cholesterol as well. Also, loving yourself comes first—no amount of products can really help if you don’t have self-confidence.”
